Does smoking a pipe a moderate amount affect your lungs or stamina?

I recently began both running on a regular basis and smoking a pipe, and while not having felt any effect from the pipe use, I am just curious as how smoking about one pipe a day would affect my stamina. I do not inhale the smoke so I can’t see it being much of an issue, but I’m just curious to see if anyone has any experience with this.
